Warship
Board · plays in your browser, no download
Five ships hidden on a ten by ten sea. Find them before it finds yours.
Where it comes from
Battleship, which was played on squared paper long before anybody sold it in a plastic case. The paper version is the better one in one respect: you lay out your own fleet, and where you put it is a decision about how the other one will search.
How to play
- Five ships are hidden on the computer’s sea. Sink them all before it sinks yours.
- Press ⇄ to shuffle your own fleet until you like it, then press ▶ to start.
- Tap a square on the left sea to fire. A small pale dot is a miss; a big red one is a hit.
- One shot each, in turn — hitting does not give you another.
- Your own sea is on the right: you only watch it.
What makes this one different
Five ships on a ten by ten sea, one shot each in turn — a hit does not buy you another, so there is no run of luck to ride. Shuffle your own fleet until you like where it sits. The shapes under each sea are the ships still afloat.
Shuffle your fleet until you like where it sits, then start: the computer does the same, and neither of you can see the other board. A pale dot is a miss and a big red one a hit, and your own sea sits on the right, where you only ever watch it.
