Where it comes from
The 1972 original that started the industry: two paddles, a square, and a coin slot. The original cabinet divided each paddle into segments so the angle depended on where the ball struck, and without that one detail there is no game at all — so that is the detail we kept.
How to play
- Slide your finger anywhere on the court to move the bottom paddle. It follows your finger, it does not chase it.
- First to five points. A point goes to whoever is not the one who missed.
- Three stars also has a wider paddle than yours and a faster ball. It is not unfair, it is three stars.
What makes this one different
Where the ball hits your paddle decides where it goes: the middle sends it straight back, the edges send it away at an angle. Without that, it is two walls returning the ball the same way forever. Your opponent has a reaction time and cannot change its mind inside it — 150 milliseconds at one star, 45 at three — so the faster the ball, the more it is caught out.
