Burst
Arcade · Oldies · plays in your browser, no download
You shoot coloured balls up at a cluster hanging from the ceiling. Three of a colour together and they burst — and then anything that was only attached through them falls too. The second half of that sentence is where all the points are.
Where it comes from
Shooting bubbles at a ceiling is a 1994 idea, and one rule holds it up: three of a colour burst, and anything left hanging from nothing falls. The second half of that sentence is the whole game.
Because the shot that counts is not the one that bursts three bubbles: it is the one that cuts loose the cluster those three were holding up. You learn to read the ceiling backwards — not “where can I take three out”, but “what is hanging from what” — and from that moment it is a different game.
How to play
| Aim | Left and right arrows, or move the mouse. On a phone, drag to aim. |
|---|---|
| Fire | Space, or tap. |
| Bursting | Three or more of the same colour touching, and the whole group goes. |
| Falling | Any ball no longer connected to the ceiling drops — and dropped balls are worth more than burst ones. |
The ceiling comes down as you go, so a cluster you could ignore a minute ago is a problem now.
Our version
Walls that bounce properly, the next ball always visible, and a browser tab that works the same on a phone and on a laptop.
Three things that help
Cut the stalk, not the fruit. Look for the ball that a whole hanging cluster is attached by. Bursting three there can drop fifteen.
Use the walls. A bank shot off the side reaches gaps that are invisible from a straight line, and those gaps are usually the interesting ones.
Do not fire just because you have a ball. Parking an awkward colour low down on the edge costs you one shot; wedging it into the middle of the cluster costs you the board.
