Where it comes from
Matching one thing to the thing it goes with is the oldest exercise on a school worksheet: a column of pictures, a column of words, and a pencil line between them. Emoji gave it a vocabulary everyone already reads, and phones turned the pencil line into a drag of the finger.
How to play
- Two columns of emoji. Every one on the left goes with one on the right: 🐝 with 🍯, 🌧️ with ☂️.
- Tap one, then its partner on the other side — or drag a line from one to the other.
- A right pair turns green and stays. A wrong one flashes red and goes away: try again.
- There is one answer only for each emoji on the board. If two of them seem to fit, look at the rest: the other one has a better partner.
- Finish without a mistake and the game counts it as perfect — that is the yellow number at the top.
- More stars means more pairs, and pairs you have to think about: ⏳ goes with 🏖️ because there is sand in an hourglass.
- From four stars on, mistakes run out: the third one loses at four stars, the second at five. Look at the whole board before you draw.
What makes this one different
Two columns of emoji, and every one on the left belongs with one on the right: the bee with the honey, the rain with the umbrella. There are no words to read, so it plays the same in every language. The hard part is that each board has one answer only — if two pairings seem to fit, the rest of the board tells you which one is meant.
The first stars are pairs anyone sees at once. Higher up the links need a second thought — an hourglass goes with the beach because there is sand in both — and from four stars on mistakes run out: three at four stars, two at five, where all eight pairs are the subtle kind.
